The annual ‘transhumance’ — when sheep from the Montauroux and Callian area are walked up to cooler, higher ground for the summer — is taking place on June 16 this year.
The event starts at 10:00 when the troupeau (flock) of sheep prepare to leave the assembly point by Montauroux college.
There are numerous events planned, including a demonstration of a traditional truffle-hunting pig, a Percheron horse showing off its strength for farm work, and of course a meal (of lamb, of course).
The transhumance is a fascinating glimpse into the rustic past of this beautiful area.
